i remember i was having a similar problem a while back. i can't remember if i was trying to download an update or another game i got on PSN. turns out i had to disable/enable "media sharing" or something like that. not sure if this helps. but maybe try "PS3 media sharing" on google or something. like i said, it was a while back.

Are you updating your ps3 directly over the internet or are you using an usb-drive? If the first one is true, try downloading the FW on your pc and install using an usb-drive.

As the post above says download the new firmware onto your PC then transfer to your PS3 with a USB drive.
You need a folder on your USB drive called PS3 and a folder in that called UPDATE then put the firmware into that so that the PS3 can find it. Also make sure you dl the update from the PS3 store in the same region as your PS3 otherwise you can mess up the dvd and bluray playback.
