Sons friends asking about COD games

My sons are 12 and are not allowed online with 18 rated games, I allow them on line with Uncharted games and SP on the Resistance series.

I would not be happy for them to do KZ yet as I think they are too young.

Now their friends go on about COD games and Xboxes, we have neither.

They have suggested their friends upgrade their consoles and have suggested some good PS3 games.

What is the draw with COD games?

Should I get one for the twins? I think they are too young still.

Finally why would I want to play COD when I could be playing KZ?

Re: Sons friends asking about COD games

The draw with the CoD games is mostly social. People buy them because their friends play it. Honestly its a pretty average franchise, not worth a buy imo. The developers release a new CoD game every year and it gers record breaking sales simply because the game has Call of Duty written on the cover.

The online is a lot more arcadey in comparison with KZ or BF, and hardly anything is improved through the sequels. CoD MW1 from 2007 looks pretty much identical to CoD MW3 since the developers don't bother improving the game (they've been using the same engine for 4 years now), but instead come up with gimmicks like CoD Elite to milk more money from their customers.

Long story short, its an overrated and average franchise thats been milked dry. Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 which you mentioned you have, are leaps and bounds ahead of CoD in most aspects.

Re: Sons friends asking about COD games

Shown them the replies - now they will have to educate their friends to get a proper console with proper FPSs.

As soon as I have decided they are mature enough I'll allow them on KZ - looking at their behaviour today - not soon.
